Cinnamon Lee’s lighting explores the transformative potential of artificial light, and its ability to enliven objects and enhance the spaces they occupy. Drawing from the fields of both physics and contemporary jewellery, she always considers materiality as the foundation of her designs. For instance, her Twilight collection capitalises on the dynamic possibilities presented by solid-state light sources, in combination with meticulously crafted metal structures that not only serve to express form, but also conduct electric current, resulting in intelligent, and often interactive objects. More sculpture than utility, Lee’s experimental lights examine our relationship with artificial light as both subject and medium. The ornamental capacity of such objects therefore, intentionally outweighs their functional capacity. Put simply, her lamps are designed to perform as ‘jewels’ rather than as ‘tools.’
